The brief was an innovative development solution, providing NZ’s first mixed-tenure housing option. With Christchurch looking at new and better ways of developing housing options for its community, Stalla Apartments will offer a new living style which exists throughout Europe, Australia and the USA.
The 26 apartments, designed by Andre Hodgskin of Architex, will be built to the latest design specifications, highlighting quality and sustainability. Set in landscaped surroundings these 2 buildings offer an aesthetic mix of one and two bedroom single level apartments and two bedroomed terraced apartments.
Clever design has created open ended apartments to allow light and air in from both sides. All apartments offer open plan kitchen/dining/living areas flowing to outdoor living. Ground floor units (some terrace style) have their own courtyard, whilst upper floor units are complete with balcony.
The apartments feature concrete floors and walls between each home. Fixtures and fittings have been chosen for durability, quality and style. Skylights and feature wall hung cabinetry to living areas are showcased.
The exterior is well-considered; secure gates for both pedestrians and vehicles, bike parking, communal vegetable gardens and rainwater tanks (for garden irrigation) encourage sustainability. Roof solar panels power the common areas, including shared BBQs.
